More bloody problems

In recent days, the game has been tested a few times by me and Gary.

We found out that we didn't really test it very well while we were making it. The multiple endings didnt work, the bluetooth headset to trigger the endings turned off after 15 mins and some of the clues I had written didnt contain the full clue but a copy and paste of two lines.

Thankfully thats all fixed now. Adam helped us out again by providing a work around for the text problem we were facing. For the multiple endings to work, there would be a text sent from the phone to one of three phones to reveal the ending. Java apps have a problem sending texts to phones it seems if the recieving phone doesnt have a recieve text app running on it. Adam showed me a work around he found before and now it all works again.

Filming has been going great, pretty much all done now apart from dropping in game footage and adding a bit of polish to it all.

All this and still over a week left to do it all in. Fantastic.

No attachment today. Maybe next time there will be the documentary here for your viewing.

They wont let us explode Squibbs

Filmings going great. All the major filimg is done, just have to film the run through and do the final edit.

Had some issues while testing the game, found out that the ending, which relies on texting, only worked to one phone and we didnt know why. Asked Adam and of course told me why it didnt work and provided the work around for it. Now we have a working ending and therefore, a working game!

Apart from polish and testing we are finished. Bizzare.

Heres a photo of one of the scenes during filming.

mocumental

Tomorrow starts the first day of filming for our mocumentary.

I'm quite excited because this stands to be a very fun and strange look into the making of our project.

Some will be serious some of it wont be, but the main info will be all there.

A few weeks ago I made the title sequence for it. I didnt post it here because other things were important at the time but here you go.

The world destruction tour

After spending two days at garys house, I'm pretty sure my liver wants to die.

Never the less we accomplished sod all.

But, the lab coat has arrived which today i promptly set about writing on it. Sitting around designing a new poster in a lab coat is brilliant, it all works together.

It makes me want to wear lab coats to design in. It's all so scientific i might explode.

Only a small post today since I just want to share the poster really. Not too much is happening with the project right now anyway since its all coming together in its strange fashion. We just need to do some testing and the mocumentary and we are pretty much done.

Call me on the telephone

The game phone is now repainted and looks far better than it did before.

The games all coming together now, props everywhere.

The velcro tux of many sizes.

Tux is now finished, here are the photos.

A costume drama

Yesterday and today, alongside coding and video editing, I (and by I, I mean my mum) have been making the tux for the player to wear while playing.

Even with diagrams, my mum was very confused by what I wanted. It a simple concept, a jacket that is sewn together but yet cut apart so that anyone can wear it.

Right now the jacket is half sewn together and fully cut apart. Tomorrow a flap will be made where velcro will go so that you can put it all back together.

from the front it looks like a perfectly normal tux, which is fantastic. It's all about the look after all. How the player feels when they are immersed in this world of secret agents.

As far as video editing goes, I've made this rain fall city scene. very moody, very serious. Perfect for our totally un serious mocumentary. It's all about the look.

Here are some photos of the jacket being made:

Everythings coming together

CRAP! I missed to post a blog on sunday, I cant live with myself.

Yesterday I pretty much spent all day making the opening titles for our mocumentary. Its swanky cool.

Today, me and gary met up and sorted out our plot and what clues go where etc. The game now has a multi choice ending. Im not going to ruin the plot, you'll just have to play it yourself and find out the secrets within.

I just built a very very crude multi choice engine. It works perfectly fine but I'm sure there are nicer ways to code it rather than my crap load of if statements. The way the story works now is that basically, the player makes their own story. They decide who the bad guy is through their own choices, we just give them enough information so that no one is seen as bad or good.

Designing graphics for phones is hard work. The screens are tiny, you have no room for anything and everything is always pixelated.

regardeless here are the graphics I have put in place for the game:

of course text will be overlaid on both of these. FOR MEANING!

run sam run

Recently, I have been concentrating more on coding up the app. Usually you can test directly from your computer and save you some time instead of having to transfer it to your phone between each build. For bluetooth apps, you can get a little add on which enables bluetooth features on your computer so it works just like it would on the phone.

Except mine doesn't want to play ball.

The add on makes it think that its working but doesnt actually comunicate with the bluetooth on my computer. So it scans but ultimately finds nothing. On Adams mac of course this feature works fine. So now each time I want to test out the app I have to transfer it to a phone.

It's not even my phone. My phone, as I found out late at night on wednesday, wont let java apps use bluetooth or other fun features on it. So, Adam the kind soul he is, has lent me a test phone over easter so that I can test things out on it. He even gave me the basic engine for the game which saves me a lot of time learning the code up to an advance level. All thats left for me to do is tailor the levels to our needs and put in any other functions that we want.

Graphics are still wonderfull. After several attempts to create a layout on a tiny screen that contains design elements that I already have used in others things I think I've cracked it.

I was almost there when I turned the logo on its side and removed the figures so that content could be placed inside it. Now I've taken the banner and one of the flourishes and I've still got plenty of room left for clue text.

Today I have a video for you guys. A video of the app working with the graphics included for the first level. I'm thinking of changing the graphics for each level so that there is a distinction between one and the next. Clearly I like to suffer.

VIDEO GO!
